The Digital Switchover is happening NOW and by 2012 should be completed. That means that all UK Television Broadcasting will be broadcast in digital only. Both Pay to View and Freeview TV will be using the digital signal.

Already a large section of the country can receive the Digital TV signal and so are able to enjoy Pay to View and Freeview TV now. Analogue signal broadcasting has started to be turned off in some regions of the country.

First of all, you do not need to replace your television set. You can simply get a digital TV aerial installed at your property and have a digital television freeview receiver box into which you will link your tv. You can dispensed with the receiver box if you buy a television with an inbuilt freeview receiver (most new tv’s come with this as standard). And while you’re at it you could also update to a HD tv. The choice is yours.

The reason why Freeview is so popular is because there are no monthly subscriptions involved. You simply plug in and start watching. If you did decide you wanted to gain access to some channels not included in the free selection you can use ‘Top Up TV’ which are Pay to View channels. Just make sure that the receiver you get has a CAM card access slot as you will need it.

How to know if Freeview Digital TV is available in your area

The easiest way is to use the digital TV postcode checking system by going to http://www.freeview.co.uk and enter your postcode in the box provided on the right and it will tell you if you can receive the digital signal. It works onm the detection of the signal strength in the general area of your post code.
